St Johns Wort

  • Relieves sadness and despondency.
  • Relieves irritability and agitation.

St. John's wort appears to impact a number of neurotransmitters that have an effect on mood and emotions.

St. John's wort contains the active constituent hypericin. Research suggests that hypericin has a tonic and tranquilizing action. St. John's wort may increase the levels of certain nerve transmitters, such as serotonin, noradrenaline and dopamine, which help to maintain normal mood and keep emotions stable.

Wild Lettuce

The latex of the Wild Lettuce was at one time sold as `Lettuce Opium', naming the use of this herb quite well! It is a valuable remedy for use in sleeplessness, restlessness and excitability and other manifestations of an over active nervous system.

  1. virosa was used in the 19th century by physicians when opium could not be obtained. It was studied extensively by the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain in 1911.

The effects of ingesting L. virosa are similar to opium, although no opiates are present in the plant. Effects are felt quickly but do not last long, between half an hour to a couple of hours. They dwindle slowly. The plant has been used as an anesthetic and a sleep aid, as well as recreationally.

Wild Lettuce was also used by the Romans and Augustus was said to have raised a statue in honor of the Lettuce infusion that he claimed saved his life. The Roman naturalist Gaius Plinius Secundus (23 AD - 79 AD) , better known as Pliny the Elder wrote extensively of Lactuca in his work Naturalis Historia

Hops

Hops is a remedy that has a marked relaxing effect upon the central nervous system It is used extensively for the treatment of sleeplessness. It will ease tension and anxiety, and may be used where this tension leads to restlessness, headache and possibly indigestion.

The first documented instance of hop cultivation was in 736, in the Hallertau region of present-day Germany

A pillow filled with hops is a popular folk remedy for sleeplessness.

The relaxing effect of hops may be due, in part, to the specific chemical component dimethylvinyl carbinol.  This is one of the isomers of amyl alcohol.  In humans it possesses sedative and hypnotic  effects similar to ethanol through ingestion or inhalation.

Valerian

It has a wide range of specific uses, but its main indications are: anxiety, nervous sleeplessness, and the bodily symptoms of tension such as muscle cramping or indigestion. It may be used safely in situations where tension and anxiety are causing problems. This may manifest in purely psychological and behavioral ways or also with body symptoms. Valerian may help in most cases. For some people it can be an effective mild pain reliever.

As one of the best gentle herbal sleeping remedies, it enhances the natural body process of slipping into sleep and making the stresses of the day recede.

For people who do not need as much sleep as they once did, it also eases lying awake in bed, ensuring that it becomes a restful and relaxing experience. This is often as re-vivifying as sleep itself, and indeed all that is necessary in more cases than not.

So in summary, Stress Guard is a natural relaxant.  Stress Guard can help keep you calm and relaxed, while helping your body repair itself against the damage caused by stress. It helps you fall asleep, sleep soundly and awaken refreshed and ready to start the day.
